Matt Baldwin is a soulful saxophonist who skillfully blends his early Gospel influences with traditions from jazz. Baldwin is the leader of his own jazz saxophone quartet and several jazz ensembles. Besides performing on soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones, he displays proficiency on clarinet, bass clarinet, flute, piccolo, percussion, and piano.

Baldwin is an avid composer whose soulful style incorporates fresh pairings of genres within jazz and beyond. His compositions typically feature the juxtaposition of complex harmonies with simple melodies, making his music enjoyable for all listeners. In addition to composing, Baldwin excels in arranging. Through his creative arrangements, Baldwin demonstrates his belief in the limitless potential for any song to be transformed into something great. Especially noteworthy are his twenty jazz saxophone quartet arrangements, which he recorded on his album, "Fountain City Funk."

Educator


Baldwin is a passionate educator, focused on helping his students discover the amazing aspects of music. As a professor at Metropolitan Community College - Penn Valley, Baldwin directs the big band and teaches courses in jazz improvisation, music theory, midi music production, and private lessons. He is also an instructor for the Jazz Academy program at the American Jazz Museum. Baldwin teaches private lessons at the Culture House in Olathe, as well as from home in North Kansas City.
